This simple dish comes together in minutes and is a great way to showcase tomatoes in peak season. Use either ripe Roma or heirloom tomatoes to really make this starter shine!
Ingredients:
- 1-2 ripe roma tomatoes, depending on size, sliced
- 1 8 ounce fresh mozzarella ball, sliced
- 8 fresh basil leaves, julienned
- Balsamic vinegar
- Flaky sea salt (optional)
Directions:
- Arrange the sliced tomatoes and mozzarella on a plate, alternating tomato and cheese.
- Sprinkle the basil on top. Drizzle the balsamic vinegar and finish with an optional light sprinkle of flaky salt
Notes:
- Use a really good aged balsamic vinegar for the best flavor
- You can substitute burrata cheese. Simple assemble the tomato slices on a larger plate, placing the burrata in the center and cutting open with a sharp knife.
- This recipe will make two servings.
Salt Swaps:
- Sodium in this dish will largely come from the mozzarella cheese. Avoid the added sprinkling of salt if you’re having a heavier entree
- Balsamic vinegar will add all the flavor the tomato and cheese need, without all the added salt
