Rotisserie on the Grill

Chicken Little

Rotisserie on the Grill

Unless you’re a vegetarian, you probably enjoy poultry, specifically chicken.

This protein sits largely in the American diet, and rightfully so. Often lean and versatile enough for any dish, chicken is quick and easy in any preparation.

From canned to rotisserie, you can find chicken throughout the supermarket. However, not all chicken is equal and a quick scan of the nutrition label will often reveal added sodium.

Get Turn’t

I love a good rotisserie chicken. Easy, flavorful and often cheaper than purchasing a whole raw chicken. Costco’s notorious $5 chickens “fly” off the heater shelves faster than the store can replenish.

If going with this quick option, try to find ones that are the least flavor boosted. Lemon pepper or original seasonings can be deceptive in added salt. And while packed with flavor, skip the skin if you can where most of the seasoning will be applied.

Rotisserie chicken is great for soups, tacos, and more. You can adjust salt in other ingredients to help reduce the overall salt for the dish. For soups, choose unsalted stock or bouillon. If it’s Taco Tuesday, opt for corn over flour tortillas.

Fresh is Always Best

While logically prepared chicken can have added salt and seasoning, even fresh/raw chicken is often loaded with added sodium to help preserve the meat and keep it juicy when cooked

When shopping for chicken, fresh will be best. Precooked chicken is often packed with added sodium and seasonings.

And while I do keep canned shredded chicken on hand for a variety of reasons (hurricane season anyone?) It, too, can be loaded with sodium.

When chicken is on sale, pick up the family pack and quickly instant pot with your favorite no salt added seasoning blend. This is a quick and easy method for even a busy weeknight dinner.
