I love ribs and pulled pork. Most premade rubs are more salt than seasoning. This adapted recipe focuses on flavor over salt. Make it yours by adjusting the base here with added heat (cayenne), more or less garlic, onion, or black pepper.
Ingredients:
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 1/2 tablespoons paprika
- 1/2 tablespoon kosher salt
- 1 1/2 tablespoons ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne powder (optional)
Directions:
- Add ingredients in a bowl and mix together with a fork until well combined.
- Apply to your favorite pork cut; shoulder, butt or rack of ribs.
Options:
- This recipe easily multiplies for two or three racks of ribs.
- For a smokier flavor, use smoked paprika.
Salt Swap:
- This recipe uses half the salt called for in most rubs.
- By making your own rub seasoning over store bought, you reduce the amount of sodium even more.
