Spring has sprung and it’s time to dust off winter and grow with the new year. Whether it’s the annual tradition to clean the house or to plant your summer flower bed, this is a great time of year to bring fresh, flavorful ingredients into the kitchen.
Warmer weather means I’m outside more and definitely at the grill. Who wants to heat up the house when it’s time for shorts and sandals?
Even if you don’t have an outdoor space, a stovetop grill or cast iron pan can add that sear and char to steak, chicken or any vegetable. My go-to is usually steak, asparagus and either pasta or a roasted potato.

But flames aren’t the only vibe for longer days. Fresh lemons can add brightness to almost any dish. From pasta to fish, a squeeze of lemon juice or tablespoon of zest will make any recipe bounce.
As the first vegetables come up and into markets, simple prep is key. A drizzle of olive oil, a few grinds of ground pepper with fresh or powdered garlic works every time.
And if it’s a salad you’re craving, layering berries, shaved parmesan and your protein of choice with a simple red wine vinaigrette… chef’s kiss and low sodium.
